Literature Text
It's four, it's three
It's the the toughest thing in the world to me
One is the roof and one is the walls
Says my sister who claims to know all
So I stare and I squint
But I just can't get it!
It's the most difficult thing in the world for me
To look at a mountain or a Christmas tree
And then to see a wrapped Christmas box
The difference is glaring yet my thoughts are lost
So I give my best guess
And I pray for the rest
Is it three or is it four
As I stare at the chalkboard
No help or hints
Not a peep from my friends
My thoughts can only dangle
As I scream out "RECTANGLE!"
It's the the toughest thing in the world to me
One is the roof and one is the walls
Says my sister who claims to know all
So I stare and I squint
But I just can't get it!
It's the most difficult thing in the world for me
To look at a mountain or a Christmas tree
And then to see a wrapped Christmas box
The difference is glaring yet my thoughts are lost
So I give my best guess
And I pray for the rest
Is it three or is it four
As I stare at the chalkboard
No help or hints
Not a peep from my friends
My thoughts can only dangle
As I scream out "RECTANGLE!"

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
When I was little, it use to amaze me how colors were made. In art class I would sit and mix paint because blue and red didn't stay the same when they fell in love. Every single color found its match and danced beautifully as I swirled them together. Black and white were my favorites. I'd pour the creamy paint into a bowl and watch as black and white swirls, turned into grey swirls and owned the container holding it captive. Grey was amazing to me. Because black and white are nothing alike, and grey is in the middle. Black is dark and scary and demanding. And white is graceful, and trusting, and clean. Grey is nothing. Grey is bland. And safe

Oh Child
your bones are small,
but strong
like your heart,
they've never been broken
oh child,
stay away from the world
oh child,
i hope you never
realize
that dreams only
last for the night

Let Your Daughter Be a Pirate
Let your daughter be a pirate
if she asks for a wooden sword
help her build her ship from empty boxes
and sail the vast backyard
because a box doesn’t only
have to store dead dreams
and she is so much more
than just a vessel.
Let your daughter be Robin Hood,
if she wants to be an anarchist,
a hero, a rebel, a rogue,
give her bows, and arrows,
and arrogance,
let her fight for the plight of poorer folk
because Robin isn’t just a boy’s name.
Let your daughter be a princess
locked in a tower so high
let her be her own prince,
don’t tell her to wait for a hundred years,
let her swing from her own hair
and grasp her own fre
